“ I was with Auto-Owners and this agency for several years before purchasing my home in 1998.  The quoted homeowner’s premium was considerably higher than other agencies, therefore, I changed to Alfa Insurance and remained with them until March 2011.  My original Alfa agent closed his agency, and my account was transferred to a new Alfa agent.  I began to have changes in my coverage with no explanation.  Since this new agent had never sent a letter or notice that he was now my agent, I contacted the office to verify my account was there.  After a couple of years, I became very unhappy with the lower level of service, the inability to have questions answered, and poor customer service.  I contacted my old agent, Lydia Livingston, with Auto-Owners, and she quickly provided me with quotes on my home and vehicles.  Even though my homeowner’s premium is higher, I did save a bit on my vehicle.  I am happier, though, because I know that if I have questions or problems, they will be addressed knowledgeably and promptly.  Lydia is wonderful, and I appreciate coming back “home” to Auto-Owners!”

Business Protection and the Fair Labor Standards Act

The federal Fair Labor Standards Act forbids an employer from firing a worker because he filed a complaint accusing the employer of violating the law.

It doesn’t say whether the employee’s complaint must be in writing. What if the worker complains verbally but never makes a written complaint? Does the FSLA’s prohibition against firing him still apply? That was the question the U.S. Supreme Court faced in a case it decided in March 2011.
